The complete Halloween table beneath hanging greenery and candlelight with a glowing blue Madame Leota centerpiece
← The Edit

The House Has Company

Olive velvet, candlelight, palmistry, old books, curious specimens, and one blue-lit apparition at the center of the table.

We wanted haunted. We did not want haunted-house aisle.

The room begins with olive velvet and warm wood, then gets stranger by degrees: palmistry plates, silver filigree, amber glass, old books, specimen blocks, black apothecary bottles, moss, candlelight, and small objects that look as though they arrived with histories of their own.

At the center, Madame Leota materializes in electric blue. The globe was built from three surprisingly ordinary components, but once the lights go low she becomes the room's entire point of gravity. The rest of the table is arranged to reward a second look rather than explain itself all at once.

The centerpiece is less an arrangement than an apparition.

Candlelight turns the collected details into something considerably stranger.

And then she appears.

Moody, not muddy.

Olive, tobacco brown, black, silver, bone, and one impossible blue keep the room dark without flattening it. Candlelight provides the warmth; Leota supplies the interruption.
